By: Maggie Grace Rohweder When you want to honeymoon in Europe, but you don’t have a European budget We all dream of the most romantic, exotic, unique location for our once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon trip. But what if our budget doesn’t allow a lot of room for world travel? Turns out, it’s possible to have an unforgettable vacation without going too far. I’ve compiled a list of places that are close to home but feel like they’re worlds away! Clearwater Beach Craving Caribbean sands? Try Clearwater Beach in Florida! Voted one of the top beaches in the country, Clearwater is known for crystalline beaches and warm, dazzling water. It can be a bit of a tourist trap, but for a savvy newly-wed Clearwater can be a romantic destination! Who doesn’t want to come back from their honeymoon with a gorgeous tan? And who doesn’t want to share drinks on the beach with your new husband or wife! Bonus: Their website is currently holding a contest to win a free trip for two! Check it out Vancouver A little closer to home than the Swiss Alps but just as breathtaking. Whether you go for the skiing or just for the views, Vancouver is nestled right in the Canadian Rockies. It offers a myriad of opportunities to get out and get going, or to kick back and relax. Enjoy the splendor of the snow-capped mountains with your partner!   Napa Valley napa You don’t have to go to Italy for a quality wine-and-dine experience. Known for its vineyards but also for its scenery, Napa Valley offers a couture experience for those with refined tastes. And for people who just like wine, too. Nothing says romance like an Italian vineyard… and Napa Valley offers you the same experience closer to home!   Pella Ain’t Dutch, ain’t much. If you crave wooden clogs and pastries, check out Pella, Iowa. One of the largest Dutch communities in the States, it retains much of its heritage. Walking through Pella looks an awful lot like walking through a quaint village in the Netherlands. And they have tulips! What more could you want?   New Orleans They don’t call it the French Quarter for nothing! Although it’s known for its Mardi Gras tomfoolery, New Orleans has a lot to offer year-round. The French architecture is simply stunning, and the jazz scene is simply unmatched. And I’m sure you can find plenty of pastries to satisfy your inner Parisian. There may be no Eiffel Tower, but there’s plenty to do in New Orleans.   Venice The one in California, not in Italy. This city reflects its namesake in culture and architecture, and it even has its own canal system! If you love the idea of canal rides and cafes, then Venice, CA might be an option for you! Really, what is more romantic than that?   San Antonio 7667773934_6cc932ec0c_n Photo by: Bryan Dorrough Craving a little Latin flair? San Antonio is a dazzling city full of culture and history. Stop by the Alamo or visit a street fair, stroll down the River Walk or, if you’re lucky, you may just find yourself in the middle of a festival! Friendly, vibrant, and fun, San Antonio would make a great honeymoon destination for those who are looking for a spicy trip location.   Victoria Turns out, British Columbia is pretty British. If you’re craving some tea and crumpets, check out our Canadian neighbors in Victoria! With architecture that looks like you’ve stepped into London, a rich cultural scene, and an ocean and mountains nearby, you can’t go wrong with Victoria. Dignified, lovely, and very welcoming, Victoria is the queen of all cities.   Cape Breton Island This lovely island off the coast of Nova Scotia looks just like the rolling Celtic coast. Settled by Scottish highlanders, Cape Breton retains some of its Celtic roots, as well as sharing a similar geography. You won’t see any highland cows, unfortunately, but you might catch a live ceili band at the local pub. The views are to die for. And it’s definitely not your typical tourist destination, which can be a big plus for many honeymooners. Don’t forget to pack your plaid!   Martha’s Vineyard 7976607289_17a43b12a3_n Photo By: Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism

Want to visit the Cliffs of Dover? Try Martha’s Vineyard instead. These absolutely stunning white cliffs off the Atlantic are sure to take your breath away. Less famous than their British counterparts but equally magnificent, Martha’s Vineyard has much more to offer than just a pretty face. A romantic getaway, and another great spot for a little wine tasting, Martha’s Vineyard is the gem of the East Coast.   Tarpon Springs Tarpon Springs, Florida, is a taste of Greece. With the highest population of Greek Americans in the country, Tarpon Springs looks like it belongs off the coast of the Mediterranean instead of the Gulf. If you love picturesque fishing villages, Greek hospitality and humor, or you’re just a big fan of feta, Tarpon Springs makes a unique and cultural honeymoon destination.
Death Valley
It’s not the Sahara… But if you love hikes through warm sands, a visit to Death Valley , CA might be just the thing! Rated some of the world’s most beautiful dunes, Death Valley offers some incredible scenery in a much more convenient location. Whether you’re into dune rides, ATVs, camping, or just love sand, Death Valley is a unique honeymoon destination.
There are so many great travel destinations to visit in this wide world. If you are looking for a honeymoon spot, and trying to be mindful of your budget, just look around you. Turns out, North America has some of the most beautiful scenery, the most welcoming people, and the greatest adventures to be found anywhere.   What are your ideas? What places didn’t make the list that should have? Share your thoughts and travel tips with us, we’d love to hear from you!   Maggie would much rather write blog posts for RingCam than do her grad school homework. She is counting the stamps in her passport, and she has a consuming passion for researching places she has not visited yet… if only homework was as fulfilling. The biggest thing on her bucket list is to step foot on every continent: she has three more to go. Bonus points for guessing which ones they are.  photos are from creative commons websites and do not suggest in anyway that they indorse Ring Cam.   Thinking about proposing soon? Check us out!
