How We Met
Sierra and I met before coming to Hope College. When we got accepted to Hope, we both joined a Facebook page for admitted students. We met on there, and became good friends over the summer leading up to freshmen year. When we got to college, we continued our friendship and the rest is history.
How He Asked
I took Sierra out for a casual, unsuspecting date. We went to Hops at 84 East in downtown Holland. This is not a super fancy restaurant, but it is where we went on our first date. After our date I took her to my uncle’s house on Lake Macatawa. He has a gorgeous backyard that backs up to the water, and he has a small beach with a fire pit. I started a fire, and then I told her that I had to “go to the bathroom,” when really I had to go into my uncle’s house to get the ring. I came back out and asked her if we could take some selfies in front of the lake. We took the pictures, and then hugged. As we were hugging, my heart was racing. I told her why I love her and that I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I then got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said, “YES!!!” After the engagement, I had some friends and family come over to take pictures, and then we celebrated with s’mores and champagne.
Ring Cam took the pressure off of me trying to figure out how to get good pictures/footage of the proposal. I was able to do my own private proposal with just us, and at the same time, I was able to capture the special moment.Cole
