How He Asked

Tabitha is a a member of the American Student Dental Association, and had a national leadership conference in Chicago, IL. Tab always wanted me to attend one with her to see what it is like, and this was her last time to go for ASDA. I decided that I would fly up and surprise her, and also plan the proposal. Two months prior, I reached out to one of Tab’s friends, Chelsea, to coordinate the proposal, and help make this special memory. Chelsea did an amazing job working providing me information about possible setting and times that this could happen during the conference. I flew to Chicago the morning of Friday November 4th.

The proposal: Tab and I met September 5, 2014 while standing in line at a FedEx Store. I had been in that store hundreds of times, but this time was different. When I walked through the door I see a beautiful girl at the front of the store in a very formal silver dress. I wanted her to turn around so I could see her face, so from the very back of the line I said, ” well you are awfully dressed up for a FedEx Store.” She turned around, smiled beautifully, and was absolutely stunning. We struck up a small conversation. She told me she was in school to become a dentist, and was heading to a formal event, which explained her attire. FedEx had messed up one of the signs for her event so she was ran in quickly to have them fix the issue. We talked a little about her being in school, and I suddenly decided I needed to see the Dentist! I agreed to be her patient, and she wrote down her name, phone number, and email address on a FedEx packing slip. I did talk to her, but it wasn’t just to set up a dental appointment… We have been talking ever since that day! For whatever reason I held on to that piece of paper with her information on it, and still have it to this day. When I flew to Chicago brought it with me. I decided it would be apart of the proposal. I put the packing slip inside of an envelope. On the envelope I wrote, “the feeling you currently have is probably similar to the one I had on September 5, 2014 when I walked through the door at FedEx and saw you standing at the front. Open me…” I put the infamous slip inside of that envelope, along with a note that said “Fedex brought us together…. Turn around!” That envelope was placed inside of a Fedex Box with a packing slip addressed to her from me.

This happened so much faster than I thought it would. I was completely nervous, and sealed the one FedEx Box without putting the important envelope inside. I didn’t realize this until I was in an Uber on my way to propose! I had NOOOOO time to spare so I Jumped out of the Uber, and ran back into the hotel took the elevator to my floor pried the box just enough to slip the envelope inside. The whole time Chelsea is waiting for me 1.2 miles away outside the hotel Tab’s conference was being held. She is telling me they are trying to stall, but I needed to get there right now! There are hundreds of people waiting! I jumped in a cab, and told the driver i needed to get there ask quickly as possible by any means. Like the movies I threw a 20 dollar bills a the driver and he obliged. The driver cut people off, hopped curbs, and ran red lights. I got to the hotel very quickly. We rushed inside, and they snuck me back stage. At the final event of her conference I had one of her friends deliver that box to her on the stage. They called her up over the microphone and said they had a “delivery” for her. Totally surprised (confused as well) she made her way to the stage, and they had her open the box. I was positioned behind the stage, waiting for my cue to come out. She read the note, turned around, and saw that I was there. I had a microphone said a few words(I don’t remember), then got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.
