Julia and I met three years ago in Durham at Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment. We first got together to plan a camping trip in the North Carolina mountains, and following a Trampled by Turtles concert, we shared our first kiss on the driveway of the home we lovingly refer to as the Murdershed. Ever since, Julia has become my best friend, PIC, and now my fiance. We have sky-dived over the deserts of Utah, climbed the tallest mountain in Central America, paddled the Everglades, surfed in Bali, biked the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat, and most recently – roadtripped around Iceland… and now we’re making it official and getting hitched!
How She Asked
While staying at the most beautiful and utterly remote horse farm on the Westfjords in Iceland, we hiked 5 miles out to the edge of the fjord. Once at the edge and on the cliffs high above the water, Mike got down on one knee and proposed under blue skies! Of course, Julia said YES(!) and when we finally made it back to the farm, we were welcomed by a gorgeous Icelandic sunset to the West, a full rainbow to the East, and conveniently – professional opera performers (aka two Canadian musicians also staying at the farm). Completely unforgettable. Cheers to a lifetime of adventures together!
