How He Asked

Beth and I were on a trip to Washington D.C. with her parents. She believed the main reason was to spend the weekend with family, visit her brother, and to attend an Adele concert. Beth did an internship in DC during our college years and it’s where we had our first nice date, I figured this would be the perfect trip to pop the question. We had ties to the city and it brought back memories of our early times as a couple.

I told Beth that I wanted to take her to this “exclusive rooftop bar”, a speak easy of sorts at the DuPont Circle Hotel. In reality, it wasn’t a bar, it was a large balcony area with a beautiful view of the city. I just had to get her to the hotel without rousing any suspicions. She was all for the views so didn’t put up much of a fight.

I had already set things up with the hotel, and booked a room so they were ready for us. On the big day I had a close friend go early to meet with the manager and get things set up in their penthouse area where I planned to propose. There was a path of rose petals and mason jars with candles leading outside. We were greeted by an amazing view, along with a bouquet of roses and a bottle of champagne to celebrate. I had one surprise left up my sleeve when we went downstairs to “get a drink” and her family was waiting to celebrate! A few bottles of champagne later, we headed to dinner to finish off the night at the same spot we had our date almost 5 years before.

I managed to pull everything off without any suspicion on her end. She was shocked to say the least…and she said yes!!
