Our Story

How We Met
We met in August 2012 at our local church while volunteering at the church’s youth group. We became friends over a short period of time, and our friendship grew deeper and deeper. We walked with each other through all our highs and the lows. We never saw the relationship coming because we were so focused on our friendship. But once we fell in love, it was a seamless transition.

I quickly worked with my jeweler, Ring Cam, and Image3D to create a beautiful proposal for Colleen. Her favorite gift I had ever given her was a custom made Viewfinder toy with pictures of us. I gave this to her for Christmas 2015. When she opened the gift, she loved it. She cried, and said she would marry me on the spot. I decided to give her an opportunity to put her money where her mouth was. From that moment, I always wanted to propose using a custom made Viewfinder toy. During a road trip, I mentioned to her I had a small thank you gift for planning the majority of our trip. After a nerve-wrecking week of having the custom Viewfinder rush-ordered and shipped to North Carolina, along with the engagement ring and Ring Cam, I decided to propose. It came down to the wire, and the engagement ring arrived 4 hours prior to the big moment. All week we were projected to have thunderstorms, but at the last minute, on Thursday June 30, 2016, the weather cleared up! I had the perfect opportunity to propose. Colleen finished up a photo shoot for our friend’s newborn baby, and we headed to Falls Lake, North Carolina. 36.023891,-78.688720 to be exact.

It was a fun, sneaky, and incognito way to capture the best moment of my life.

How He Asked
I originally was planning on proposing on August 6th, 2016, and then decided to propose on July 9th, 2016 with an elaborate plan involving a picnic kayak date. However, Colleen quickly figured out my plans, and it began to unravel. So with the help of some amazing friends, I decided to propose during our summer vacation. Earlier in 2016 we planned a road trip to North Carolina. Colleen was going to surprise me with a date to a beautiful lake, since we love all things outdoors. I contacted our friends in North Carolina, and found out about her secret plans and about the beautiful lake she wanted to take me to. The lake even had a bridge. Once I found out that the lake was of immense importance and carried special meaning to her, I knew it was the place I HAD to propose.

As we climbed down the stairs leading to a gorgeous scenic view of the lake, my knees began to buckle, and my legs began to shake. I don’t know how she didn’t notice this. I gave her the Viewfinder gift, and she did not know what was coming next. As she clicked through the reel, she saw our story unfold before her eyes. 6 clicks through the reel, she read “Now it’s time for the next chapter to begin. Colleen, my love, will you marry me?” As she turned away from the Viewfinder in surprise, she found me down on my knee proposing. The rest is history. Thank you Ring Cam, Image 3D, Tudor Jewelers, John, Heather & Maverick Redeker, Chris & Angela Ruggerio, and Stephanie Duarte for helping make this unforgettable moment possible. Colleen Murphy, I love you with all my heart. 6/30/16 was a dream.
